Behind the #PBCHOOPSTOP5 1/9/22 and Week 8 Preview

When top teams play there will always be not only great competition but also an opportunity to earn or move up in the Top 5. This week was a prime example, Lake Worth and Palm Beach Lakes both made huge statements on the week and both we rewarded with elevated spots in the poll. While there are a couple teams on the outside looking in wondering when it will be their time. To find them take I-95 to exit 66, one is just east of the highway the other 3.2 miles west.

Here's a look Behind This Weeks #PBCHOOPS Top 5:

#1 Lake Worth (9-2)

The Trojans haven't ducked anyone and in fact scheduled all the top teams for a reason. Why? To prove they were the top team in the county. So far so good, now the target is squarely on their back. More tough games on the horizon including a trip to Tallahassee for the Martin Luther King Jr holiday weekend.

#2 Dwyer (11-2)

The Panthers took one on the chin Friday night but don't expect any loss in focus. Dwyer is laser focused on winning a state title and like any team with such lofty goals the regular season is an opportunity to become battle tested, win or lose.

#3 Martin County (11-3)

The Tigers were on a three game losing streak, although not a normal stretch, before getting back on track Thursday night with a win.

#4 Palm Beach Lakes (8-2)

Lakes started off the week with a loss to Santaluces before winning back to back games at home over Wellington and Suncoast.

#5 Wellington (11-4)

Wellington like the teams ahead in the poll this week has played a monster schedule, they also have big plans for the post season. No one should be worried out west.

Lakes has been grinding out victories all season and showed a lot of toughness. The Falcons are still looking for a signature win against a quality opponent. Should be an intense game.

#5 Wellington vs Jupiter

Wellington has had Jupiter's number over the last several years. The road however has become much tougher for the Warriors after senior star Conner Weston suffered a season ending knee injury.

It will also be a busy weekend of Martin Luther King Jr Holiday Tournaments as teams will be competing across the state. As match-ups become available they will be added to the weeks schedule of games here >
