Behind the Public Schools #PBCHOOPSTOP5 12/13/20 and Week 2 Preview

Week 1 of the Public Schools regular season was highly anticipated and gave us all a chance to get a look at what's expected to be some very good teams. The Top 5 was invaded by Martin County in its first week of eligibility after a big win at Saint Andrew's, the Tigers are 6-0 and playing some good basketball headed into the Kreul. Here's a look Behind This Weeks #PBCHOOPS Top 5 and Week 2 Preview:

#1 Wellington (2-0)

Wellington started of the regular season with two decisive victories over Lake Worth and Atlantic. The Wolverines have been led by its version of the "BIG 3", seniors Christopher Walker, Will VanHook and Jordan Johnson who wave combined to average 59 points per game and over 75% of the teams scoring .The Wolverines jump into the fire Tuesday as they head to Riviera Beach to face young guns at #4 Suncoast.

#2 Martin County (6-0)

It's been a long time coming to include Martin County along with Okeechobee in the #PBCHOOPS rankings. Therefore it wasn't a surprise on it's first week of eligibility the Tigers jump in at #2. Saturday night Martin County picked up a big victory over Saint Andrew's and stand an undefeated 6-0. The Tigers will face several more Palm Beach County teams this season and have their sights set firmly on a trip to state.

#3 Forest Hill (2-0)

New group same result for Forest Hill. The Falcons posted two lopsided victories to start the season over Jupiter and Dwyer. In the Dwyer game the Falcons pressure was overpowering and allowed them to get plenty of baskets in transition. Up next is a matchup against Royal Palm Beach a team looking to bounce back.

#4 Suncoast (1-0)

Suncoast looked mighty impressive in it's win over Palm Beach Lakes, showing balance and depth at every position. The Chargers are blessed with experienced seniors and talented young players that both work well together on the defensive side of the ball. Offensively they are just as versatile able to work both the inside and outside game.

#5 William T. Dwyer (1-1)

Dwyer was preseason #1 and rightfully so in our opinion, at full strength the Panthers have all the pieces to be a special group. Friday night however the Panthers were missing four players due to a school playoff football game with players on both squads. The lack of playmakers at the guard position hurt them against the Forest Hill's pressure and ultimately led to a loss. Dwyer will be back sooner rather than later.

#1 Wellington vs #4 Suncoast

This is one of those matchups that probably never would have happened if not for the COVID related scheduling changes. This game should be a high intensity, close battle between top 5 teams.

Boca Raton vs Olympic Heights

This "Battle of Boca" normally is one sided but this season Olympic Heights looks like a team on a mission. The Lions look to take down their cross city rival and continue to build on their successful start to the season.

The Kreul Classic December 19-22, 2020

The Kreul Classic is set for this week.
