Behind the 2020-21 Boys PUBLIC SCHOOL Preseason #PBCHOOPSTOP5 and Week 1 Preview

2020 has been a year like no other, bringing changes to our everyday lives. Sports, basketball in particular, has not been immune to the changes. Those changes have affected the start of the high school basketball season here in Palm Beach County. The Palm Beach County School District made the decision to delay the start of the season two weeks from the official start date set by the FHSAA. Due to the changes we decided initially to separate Private and Public school polls to start the 2020-21 #PBCHOOPS high school basketball season, here is the Preseason Boys Public School Top 5 and Week 1 preview.

#1 William T. Dwyer

Dwyer finished last season 23-5 and was easily the biggest surprise of the year. The Panthers are returning three starters from last year's squad and were able to get several more underclassmen experience over the course of the season. Dwyer will be deep and talented but may have to wait a bit to be at full strength. Either way, expect the group to be one of the best in the county.

#2 Wellington

Every year Wellington can be penciled in at the top of the rankings. This season is no different, the Wolverines will be led by Arkansas-Little Rock signee, 6' 6' senior sharp shooter Christopher Walker, who returns from a Wellington team that did not make it to state for only the second time in six years. New this season are senior guards Will Vanhook and Jordan Johnson providing a powerful core with scoring punch. This "BIG 3" will be tough for any and all opponents this season.

#3 Forest Hill

Last season the Falcons made it to the state Final 4 with a senior led team, they do however return two seniors who will be competing in their fourth year of varsity competition. Donovan Draper was perhaps the hottest player locally over the summer months and will look to increase his stock even more with college coaches during the high school season. Fellow senior Jalen Jeter will also be counted on to lead a young team, expect both to be key to the success of Forest Hill this season. Senior transfer Shane Allen will add additional scoring and energy to a highly active group.

#4 Suncoast

The Chargers have loaded up with young talent and have moved up as one of the top teams in the county. Sophomore Nate Sasser and freshman Stone Bureau have had a solid preseason meshing well with the existing core from last season. Suncoast is deep and will count on seniors Ethan Barnes and Evan Stinson to help guide the young guns. The Chargers are built for the future but also have an eye on the present.

#5 Royal Palm Beach

Royal Palm Beach ended last season at the hottest team in 7A, narrowly missing the district championship game. The emergence of that team coincided with the play of current seniors Ryan Maxwell and Christopher George, the duo has looked very good in the preseason and lead a Wildcat squad the plays with effort and high intensity. Royal Palm has all the pieces to be a state title contender.

Olympic Heights has big hopes for this season with the return of senior Micah Octave, the Lions take on a young Park Vista squad under a new regime. This should be a good early season matchup.
