Behind the #PBCHOOPSTOP5 12/1/19 and Week 2 Preview

The first week of the regular season separated the contenders from the pretenders fairly quickly, as the top teams handled business and looked impressive doing so. A new week means new challenges, here is a look at the latest Top 5:

#1 Wellington - Wellington looked the part of a #1 beating both Village Academy and Monsignor Pace easily. The stage is now set for a showdown with #3 Park Vista on Tuesday night.

#2 Saint Andrew's - Saint Andrew's went 2-0 on the week and now prepares for a jump up in competition against some of Broward County's best. Wednesday they host Pine Crest and Friday night Blanche-Ely in the Kreul Showcase.

#3 Forest Hill - Forest Hill looked dominant, going 2-0 with wins over Hallandale and Lake Worth. Friday night they face Santaluces who is looking to make a statement early in the season.

#3 Park Vista - Park Vista has its eyes set on the #1 spot and will have the opportunity to make its case starting Tuesday night against Wellington. This will be the game of the season so far.

#5 Grandview Prep - Grandview is in the #PBCHOOPS Top 5 for the first time since January 2018. At that time they lasted all of a week before being bounced out, this time around the Pride should have a longer stay.

The poll will continue to be fluid as the season goes on with many of the top public school teams facing each other. That's not the case for the two private schools in the ranking, neither St Andrew's or Grandview Prep have a top 5 Palm Beach County public school on their respective schedules. This may cause more of a problem in the rankings for Grandview as opposed to St Andrew's down the line, the Scots do have traditional Broward public school powerhouses Blanche-Ely and Dillard scheduled along with a few other Broward programs.

Week 2 Preview

Week 2 of the regular season starts today and it's loaded with competitive matchups, here's a look at the best:

Tuesday December 3, 2019

#1 Wellington vs #3 Park Vista
These are the types of games that need to played in our county. This game will feature some of the counties best talent all on one floor. Park Vista is led by senior guard Erik Pratt, the lefty is putting up big numbers to start the season and is playing with great confidence. Wellington has it's on playmaker in freshman Marvel Allen who plays more like a senior than a freshman. Allen has been electric in his start to the season finishing with 23 points in a win over Monsignor Pace Saturday. Both teams are talented, Park Vista has the edge in experience, the Cobras start five seniors. Wellington has an edge in depth, the Wolverines can go 10 deep and still keep the same level of consistency. This will be a great matchup. So who wins? Palm Beach County basketball.

Palm Beach Lakes vs Palm Beach Lakes
If that other game in Boynton wasn't taking place this would be the Game of the Night for sure. Lakes has it's full squad now which means problems for opponents. Central has quietly started 2-0 and win against a county powerhouse program will make a huge statement.

Wednesday December 4, 2019

Pine Crest vs #2 Saint Andrew's
This should be the Scot's first of many test this season. As expected Saint Andrew's has been led by senior Yusif basa-Ama and junior Joshua Minott both players are averaging over 20 points per game to start the season. They will face a formidable duo in Pine Crest twins Ausar and Amen Thompson who are averaging 20 and 17 points per game respectively.

Friday December 6, 2019

#2 Saint Andrew's vs Blanche-Ely
Doesn't get much bigger than this, a great matchup at the Kreul Showcase in Broward.

Dwyer vs Palm Beach Lakes
This rivalry is the premiere game in Palm Beach County year in year out. Expect another great contest that goes down to the end.

#3 Forest Hill vs Santaluces
Forest Hill avenged a loss from last year's schedule after a complete win over Lake Worth. Now the try to do the same against a Santaluces squad that beat them last season.

Saturday December 7, 2019

#1 Wellington vs Sagemont
Wellington win or lose Tuesday night must bounce back against a tough Sagemont team at the Kreul Showcase.

Dwyer vs Deerfield Beach
Year in year out the Kreul does excellent job of creating matchups the public want to see, this is just another example.

Week 2 is loaded and more is yet to come with several high profile matchups for top teams during the month of December.
