It's a new year and the top teams in the county are heading into the home stretch looking to build off early season success. The holiday break was filled with plenty of competitive matchups against teams outside of the area. This weeks Top 5 teams went a combined 14-3 in those contests against teams with a combined record 111-66. Now as the calander hits the new year 2023 only three undefeated teams remain, #2 Dwyer 11-0, Kings Academy 12-0 and Inlet Grove 7-0. King's Academy and Inlet Grove have yet to crack the rankings but that could change soon as the competition starts to mount. There will be plenty of opportunity to come as each week brings additional tests.

Here's a look Behind This Weeks #PBCHOOPS Top 5 for the week ended 1/1/2023:

#1 Lake Worth (9-1)

The Trojans went 3-0 on the week which featured a 4th quarter comeback to take down Princeton (OH) in the tip off game of the HBCPB. Lake Worth followed that win up with two double digit wins in Gainesville at the Florida Getdown.

#2 Dwyer (11-0)

Dwyer kept its undefeated season going with two solid wins at the Sunshine State Explosion in Broward County. The Panthers showed depth as juniors Amare Nealy and Jaelen Nelson came up big in both games.

#3 Wellington (12-2)

The Wolverines were busy over the break playing six games, two of them going to overtime including the championship win at the HBCPB over Maxpreps #29 Jackson-Reed out of Washington DC.

#4 Jupiter Christian (8-2)

The Eagles went 2-1 at the Kreul Classic with wins over Blanche Ely and Dillard. The one loss came in a highly competitive game with St Brendan out of Miami.

#5 Suncoast (10-4)

The Coast had a successful trip to the Kingdom of the Sun going 3-1 with its lone loss coming to Covington Catholic and Miami University commit Even Ipsaro.

Park Vista vs Martin County

Park Vista has seeked out all the top teams in the area for a shot at the best, up next is the defending 6A state champions Martin County on the road. Both teams come into the game with 4 losses against teams with a combined record of 73-26 and average Maxpreps SOS of 11.75

University School vs Saint Andrew's

University School is 9-1 featuring a roster full of young prospects including promising 6' 5" 2025 sophomore Kohl Rosario. Rosario leads the Sharks in scoring at 17.4 points per game. Saint Andrew's is coming off a trip to New York where they finished 2-1.

Boyd Anderson vs #5 Suncoast

Big time Broward vs Palm Beach matchup in Riviera Beach. Boyd Anderson has won 5 of its last 7 games while Suncoast is coming of an impressive showing in Central Florida, expect plenty of talent on the floor.
