2018 #PBCHOOPS Boys 9A State SemiFinal Preview

And then there was one. All year Wellington has held the top spot in our #PBCHOOPS TOP 5 and along the way has surprised with their ability to not rebuild but reload after the departure of Trent Frazier via graduation. The last time a team went wire to wire #1 in our poll was the 2A State Champion Grandview Prep back in 2016. The Wolverines are two wins away from it's second state title in four years and third state Final 4 appearance in a four year stretch.

#PBCHOOPS Player of the Week ended 11/20/16 - Sydney Jones

Sydney Jones of Wellington High School is this weeks #PBCHOOPS Player of the Week ended 11/20/16.

Sydney, a junior, averaged 26 points and 12 rebounds in 3 games last week capped off by a 42 point performance in a victory against Cardinal Newman Saturday. The Wolverines have won 3 straight games after falling to Palm Beach Lakes last week and are knocking on the door for a return into the #PBCHOOPS Top 5 in the coming weeks.

Boys preseason Tip-Off week quick thoughts

It is fun to have high school hoops back in Palm Beach County. Girls started their regular season Monday, boys preseason events started on Tuesday. This post will cover a few boys teams we had a chance to see this week and how they might shape views moving forward. So here are some quick thoughts:

#PBCHOOPS Player of the Week ended 2/21/16 - Alex Dieudonne

Alex Dieudonne of Wellington High School is this weeks #PBCHOOPS Player of the Week ended 2/21/16.

Alex, a senior, led the Wolverines with 31 points in the 8A Regional Final loss to Coral Springs Friday night. His effort on defense, blocking shots, rebounds, offensive put backs and clutch free throws kept his team in the game while being short handed with 2 senior starters disqualified with foul trouble. The effort still was not enough as Wellington lost in Double OT ended their back to back state title hopes.

Confident Wellington rolls into Regional Final

On the #PBCHOOPSR2L Road to Lakeland all teams must go through Wellington. Last night a confident, cocky, borderline arrogant Wellington squad dismantled the champions from district 10-8A, Santaluces, 67-45. From the opening tip there was an edge to the Wolverines team as the jumped out to 23-5 lead over the Chiefs. By midway through the 2nd quarter it was apparent the fight had been taken out of Santaluces as it was difficult for them to run anything offensively.

The #pbchoops Top 5 ended with the same teams that started the season, albeit they took different routes. Grandview Prep went wire to wire as the undisputed #1 team in all of Florida. Friday they over powered an undersized Lake Worth Christian team to finish the regular season undefeated while facing the states best competition, ducking no one.

#PBCHOOPS Players of the Week ended 12/23/15 - Trent Frazier, Lester Gates, Alex Dieudonne, Shawn Occeus

Trent Frazier, Lester Gates and Alex Dieudonne of Wellington High School along with Shawn Occeus of Grandview Prep are this weeks #PBCHOOPS Co-Players of the Week ended 12/13/15.

The Wellington trio led the #3 team in our #PBCHOOPSTOP5 to a 3-0 record last week defeating #5 Boca Raton and 7A #1 Bartow.

On Tuesday Dieudonne led the way with 34 points in the victory against Glades Central, Trent Frazier contributed with 23 points.

Wednesday in the #PBCHOOPS Game of the Night, Lester Gates led with 28 points to propel the Wolverines to a victory over 1-loss Boca Raton.

The Pride schedule is tough and it's no different this week as they face Oxbridge and Westminster Academy (FTL). Expect Grandview to coast and be right back at #1 next week.
