Tony Perkins - GIRLS Coming for that #1 Spot Showcase Top Performers and Standouts - Event Recap (2021 & 2022) 9/13/20
There is a reason Tony Perkins Florida Basketball Bulletin "Coming for that #1 Spot Showcase" is in it's 17th year. The answer? Highly competitive, talent filled events that truly don't care about if a prospect is a blue chip headed to a traditional collegiate powerhouse or a local player just trying to make a name for themselves. High School campers were broken up into 2 groups lower 9th/10th (c/o 2024/2023) and 11th/12th (c/o 2022/2021). We start the recap with the 2021's and 2022's which also included a select group of 2023's:
#PBCHOOPS Top Performers:
Ambar Ramirez 5' 5" c/o 2021 (Miami Christian) - Sometimes you can tell who the hoopers are by the way they carry themselves in the gym. Ambar is one you look at and pretty much know what to expect. The 5' 5" point guard out of Miami Christian has a strong, stocky build and knows how to run the point. Ramirez is shifty and was able to create for others as well as get buckets at the basket for herself. Add to that a solid shooting stroke and lock up defense, you have the complete package. Expect for Barry University to make a strong push to keep the guard at home.
Chloe Kitts 6' 2" c/o 2023 (DME) - Chloe Kitts is a high motor, very skilled wing. Her energy is off the charts and shows a high level of competitiveness on the court, forcing opponents and teammates alike to raise their level of play or move to the side. Although Chloe is a class of 2023 sophomore she had no problem playing with the older players, blocking shots, leading the fast break and knocking down shots. Her upside is high and will be someone to watch closely these next 3 years.
Violette Skipworth 5' 11" c/o 2021 (Pace HS) - Violette caught my eye but that of Florida SouthWestern Head Coach Jarard Ellis during a simple full court suicide running drill, she was in the lead by a good margin on every set and not by a little. That same effort was on display in the game play sessions. Violette would always get back on defense or run the floor whether she got the ball or not on the fast break. Offensively she is fundamentally sound, strong, rebounds her area and makes layups. A solid player who just picked up an offer from Florida SouthWestern State College.
Jayla Murray 6' 1" c/o 2021 (Tampa Bay Tech) - I was really happy to stay until the end of the event, if not I probably would have missed out on this gem. Jayla Murray is a player, she's strong and runs floor extremely well making the right play finishing or getting an assist. Jayla has great size and skill, a player you will definitely see at the collegiate level.
Eleecia Carter 5' 8" c/o 2023 (Lake Highland Prep) - Carter is a silky smooth point guard, very athletic and plays with great pace, using her quickness and speed effectively to keep opponents off balance. Only class of 2023 but her game is far more seasoned.
Keyara Bromley 5' 9" c/o 2023 (Armwood HS) - Keyara Bromley is yet another class of 2023 sophomore that performed well in the older session. Bromley possess a versatile skill set to go along with nice size and the ability to shoot.
Samara Spencer 5' 9" c/o 2021 (St Thomas Aquinas)
Kailani Lindsey 6' 0" c/o 2023 (Wildwood HS)
Ashleigh Battle 5' 0" c/o 2023 (Cardinal Gibbons)
Zoe Zetlin 5' 6" c/o 2021 (Boca Raton HS)
Haley Lang 5' 10" c/o 2023 (Dunbar HS)
Amaya Patterson 6' 0" c/o 2022 (Timber Creek HS)
As with all events it's difficult to get eyes on every player in attendance. One thing all participants can walk away with is that they were able to get better in some way, Tony's showcase events are different than any I have attended or hosted giving players a total evaluation experience with includes plenty of hands on instruction. In addition several college coaches were in gym as well making this is a must attend event for any serious basketball player in the state of Florida.
Check back later this week for the class of 2023 and 2024 session recap.
