2018 #PBCHOOPS Boys 9A State SemiFinal Preview
And then there was one. All year Wellington has held the top spot in our #PBCHOOPS TOP 5 and along the way has surprised with their ability to not rebuild but reload after the departure of Trent Frazier via graduation. The last time a team went wire to wire #1 in our poll was the 2A State Champion Grandview Prep back in 2016. The Wolverines are two wins away from it's second state title in four years and third state Final 4 appearance in a four year stretch.

Wellington vs Miramar - To start off this is a match-up of contrasting teams and styles. Wellington plays the ultimate TEAM game. It all begins with solid defense where they've held opponents to only 46.7 points per game. Offensively they are led by the backcourt of seniors Bryan Williams and Nico Toledo. Yet it it does not stop with them, the Wolverines are well balanced routinely having 4 to 5 players in double digits in scoring per game.
The one intagible that may set this group apart is their toughness. Coach Matthew Colin always has his teams prepared and this may be the most resilient squad left in the tournament, always playing hard and know how to close out games. They face a team out of Broward in Miramar that burst onto the scene after several years of unfulfilled promise. The Patriots come in at 27-3 and have a roster filled with athletic, long players with the senior leadership of 6' 7" Immanuel Crump, 6' 5" Damian Miller and 6' 5" Jamir Moore. Miramar. Miramar has been tested all year and faced some of Browards best competition, capping off the regular season as the prestigious Broward County Big 8 Champions.
Wellington will have it's hands full in this match-up along with a hand full of motivation. Last year the Wolverines season ended in the semifinal round in a controversial last second loss to Osceola. One thing the Wolverines have proven over the years however, is they don't shrink in big game situations. Expect one of their better games to knock out Miramar this time around.
