2016-17 #PBCHOOPS Private Schools Player of the Year and Co-MVP Kaleb "KJ" Fitzgerald will attend Sunrise Christian Academy Prep School in Wichita, KS this fall. Fitzgerald will spend 1 year at Sunrise before moving on to play Division 1 college basketball in 2018.
We had a chance to speak with KJ's dad, Tory Laster, about KJ's decision to prep 1 year and join the recruiting class of 2018. "After talking it over as a family & looking at KJ's options we felt it would benefit him. Taking a prep year will allow him to mature & come into college more prepared both physically & mentally. With notable alumni like alumni Buddy Hield and others who have taken advantage of the opportunity, Sunrise Christian Academy seems like a great fit. KJ will be playing with several kids who are Power 5 commits already. All in all I think it's a great fit for him while not using a year of eligibility."
One year of prep school after high school is not uncommon for top prospects, this year class will include another top Florida PG prospects, Louisville commit Anfernee Simons, who will attend IMG Academy and enter college next fall with the class 2018.
